Right to rent

IRIS appointed to carry out evaluation of Government’s right to rent scheme.

The Right to Rent scheme is being introduced as part of the Immigration Act 2014. Under this scheme landlords of private rental accommodation are required to conduct checks to establish that new tenants have the right to rent in the UK.

The Government has announced a phased implementation of the scheme, with Phase 1 having started on 1 December 2014.  The Phase 1 location comprises the area covered by the local authorities of:

•         Birmingham,

•         Dudley

•         Sandwell

•         Walsall

•         Wolverhampton.

To inform further rollout of the scheme, the Home Office are conducting research to evaluate the first six months of the policy’s implementation.  They have commissioned an independent research organisation, IRIS Consulting, to carry out specific strands of evaluation activity with landlords and tenants.

If you wish to have more information about the research being conducted by IRIS Consulting you can contact the IRIS project director John Harvey on 020 7287 0822 or by e-mail at: johnharvey@irisconsulting.co.uk
